Global trends in the tracked IFV market
Thursday 3 June 2010There is a growing appetite for tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) around the world, with countries looking to either replace existing vehicles reaching the ends of their useful lives or to recapitalise and benefit from current technologies in a new fleet of fighting vehicles.
The global trends in the tracked IFV market will be presented in two parts and will be moderated and chaired by Peter Felstead, Jane’s Defence Weekly. In the first, Christopher F Foss, editor of Jane's Armour and Artillery will examine vehicles currently in production, under development or still being marketed, including the latest Chinese vehicles, German Puma, Italian Dardo, South Korean K21, Russian BMP-3 series, Singaporean Bionix, Swedish CV90 and Turkish IFV’s as well as some of the vehicles currently being upgraded to enhance their capabilities, including the British Warrior and US Bradley, before discussing the emerging trends of heavy infantry fighting vehicles and will explore key topics such as:
- Latest vehicles have enhanced firepower and protection
- Countries are still procuring Infantry Fighting Vehicles
- Tracked IFV’s are becoming more expensive and complex than earlier vehicles
- Some countries are moving towards a balanced fleet of tracked and wheeled vehicles
In the second half of the seminar, Ben Goodlad, Analyst, Jane’s Defence Procurement - Combat Vehicles will use data and charts provided by Jane’s DS Forecast and Jane’s Defence Procurement to provide both historical analysis and forecasting of the IFV market. This will examine the current and anticipated position of the various IFV platforms and manufacturers in the market.
