Programme
Maritime response only address piracy at its end point, on the sea, rather than at is root, on land. The complex interplay between governance, society and economics, and their impact on maritime disorder needs to be understood, particularly while the risk-reward ratio for pirates remains loaded towards the latter.
This Jane’s online seminar will therefore cover:
- Piracy and pirate trends
- Drivers of piracy
- Case study: Somalia - social, economic, political drivers and piracy/terrorism
- Comparing Somalia with Aceh
- International maritime response - are maritime patrols effective (Somalia, Malacca, Gulf of Guinea)? Role of special ops
- Shipping industry – the role of private security companies
