Saudi Arabia – long ranked as one of the world’s largest importers of defence materiel – is facing a bow-wave of procurement spending, with forecast investment of USD83 billion over the coming five years.

Indications of wider procurement relationships have shifted sparked significant interest from global contractors, although major challenges remain. Procurement practices are opaque; offset demands are on course to become more burdensome; and the Kingdom’s continued heavy reliance on hydrocarbon exports presents significant risks.
