Award Categories - Shortlisted companies revealed - Jane's ATC Awards 2011

Shortlisted companies for the eleventh annual Jane’s ATC Awards were announced on 10 February 2011 by Jane’s Airport Review. The awards celebrate the improvements in air traffic control over the past 12 months across seven areas important to the future of the industry. The winners will be announced at the CANSO ATM Gala Dinner in association with the Jane’s ATC Awards on the 7 March 2011 at the Grand Krasnapolsky hotel in Amsterdam.

Ben Vogel, editor, Jane’s Airport Review, said: “This year we have received almost double the number of nominations of previous years, which demonstrates the industry’s dedication to improve airspace management and control. The entries are wide ranging and reflect the air traffic control community’s commitment to efficient, safer and greener aviation.”

Jane’s ATC Awards have established a reputation for recognising and rewarding excellence within air traffic control industry. This year a new award category was included to reflect the industry’s dedication to improvementing in runway safety. The judging panel is drawn from across the industry and includes senior technical representatives from CANSO, Eurocontrol, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Air Transport Association (IATA), the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations (IFATCA) and IHS Jane’s.

Enabling Technology Award

• Aerothai - BOBCAT secure web-based traffic flow management system.
• Airservices Australia and DGCA Indonesia - operational commissioning ADS-B Data Sharing between Australia and Indonesia
• Barco and Airways New Zealand – collaborative flow management system tool in New Zealand
• ITT – ADS-B implementation in the Gulf of Mexico
• NATS/Nav Canada - EFPS project and implementation team

Environment Award

• Brüel & Kjær EMS – FlightOps web-based service
• GE Aviation – implementation of RNP AR at Bradley Airport
• Metron Aviation/Delta Airlines – Harmony for Airlines flow management system at New York LaGuardia Airport
• NAV Portugal - Free Route Airspace Lisbon (FRAL) project.
• NATS – ‘Acting Responsibly’ programme for business sustainability
• Systems Interface – first UK airport installation of solar-powered LED runway safety lighting

Contribution to European Air Traffic Management Award (ATM)

• DFS – Remote Tower Solution
• Egis Avia and DSNA – MAESTRO departures manager at Paris Charles de Gaulle
• Eurocontrol - Network Operations Portal (NOP) for continent-wide information sharing.
• Eurocontrol – LARA software application which allows civil Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP) and military users organisation to book airspace or CDRs online
• Eurocontrol – SASI project to support 24 European ANSPs’ Safety Management Systems.
• Eurocontrol – SAFREP safety reporting and data flow task force project on safety performance indicators

Service Provision Award

• Avibit/Estonia ANS – integrated tower automation system at Tallinn Airport
• GE Aviation – Required Navigation Performance (RNP) Services: design, implementation and maintenance services for precise approach and departure flight paths
• NATS/Airbox – AWARE Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)‐based navigation aid for general aviation use.
• NATS – Vision 2011 initiatives to improve service quality
• Saab/LFV/Airservices – Remote Tower system

Industry Award

• Boeing - InFlight Optimization Services for automated fuel savings advisories to aircraft while in flight.
• Comsoft – first operational Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM) 5-based aeronautical database with Electronic Aeronautical Information Publications (eAIP)
• Eizo Nanao - Re/Vue video and audio recording product
• Quintiq – ANSP workforce planning system, for rostering and operational management of controllers
• Thales - SIMCAT en-route and approach air traffic control simulator

Innovation Award

• Pegasystems - Build for Change Business Process Management (BPM) technology for Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) at London Heathrow
• Searidge - IntelliDAR camera system for surface target tracking and surveillance.
• STR SpeechTech - StarCaster Digital Automatic Terminal Information Service (D-ATIS) 5.0 for generating Automatic Terminal Information Service broadcasts
• Sunhillo - Virtual Radar, first used by ITT to transform ADS-B data into radar data in Gulf of Mexico
• Wacom - Cintiq 21UX interactive pen display

Runway Safety Award

• ADB/ATRiCS – semi-automatic lighting for surface management
• QinetiQ NA – Runway Incursion Alerting System
• Micro Nav – Airside Driver Trainer simulator
• FAA/Sensis – Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X (ASDE-X) surveillance data fusion for situational awareness of runway and taxiway areas.

Winners in each category will be announced during the event at the NH Grand Krasnapolsky Hotel in Amsterdam on 7 March.
