Boosting survivability
Ballista-Tek, the specialist interior blast protection division of Exmoor, has developed blast attenuating vehicle seating and floor matting intended to increase survivability and reduce injury to troops in armoured and light vehicles. Shown on Stand 2218, the purpose-built seating features a heavy-duty frame with GRP/Kevlar double-shell and integrated ‘Blast-Guard’ tiles to reduce the effects of blast and shockwaves. Integral blast harness restraints and the company’s ‘Outlast’ adaptive comfort fabric enhance ride comfort and safety.

BAE Systems invited to bid for Challenger support contract
The UK MoD Investment Approval Board (IAB) has given the green light to BAE Systems Global Combat Systems to submit a non-competitive bid by the end of 2009 to provide support to the Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (MBT).

On Stand 2027, Persides is offering independent consultancy services and innovative technology products for the defence, aerospace and security sectors. It has led, supported and consulted on numerous Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR) projects for major industry prime contractors such as UTacS, Raytheon and Thales, where Persides has provided a full turnkey service from bid management and solution development through to programme execution. VEEcam has been invaluable to military personnel operating in the Middle East and the body-worn video system has also been a huge success with police and emergency services.

Brazil to launch export Rafale
On Monday, the country’s national day, Brazil announced that President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had authorised negotiations to begin over the supply of Dassault Rafale fighters for the Brazilian Air Force. The French product has been chosen in preference to the Saab Gripen NG and Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. While only 36 fighters are initially sought, the Brazilian requirement is expected to grow to at least 100 aircraft.

Atlas awarded F125 frigate combat system contract
Atlas Elektronik (Stand 1188) has been contracted by the ARGE F125 consortium (comprising ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and Lürssen Werft) to supply command and tactical datalink systems for the German Navy’s new F125 frigate programme.
