A fiery dawn
Making its DSEi debut in the Australian Pavilion on Stand 1455, the EOS range of stabilised remote weapon stations first entered service in 2004, since when some 500 units have been supplied for use in the harsh environments of Iraq and Afghanistan. The family has also grown to accommodate stations that can mount weapons of higher calibre.

Saab’s VTUAS family is ready
Last month, Saab and Swiss UAV demonstrated the three members of their new VTUAS (vertical takeoff unmanned air system) family together for the first time. The trio of Skeldar, Neo and Koax were displayed in Switzerland, and the trials were highly successful. Saab is promoting the new family here at DSEi.

Claimed to use significantly less power than its nearest rival, the ultra-low power, miniature lightweight MicroCam thermal imager from Thermoteknix Systems is on display on stand 2279.

Rolls-Royce to supply propulsion equipment for new French LHD
Global power systems group Rolls-Royce has secured a £7.5 million contract for the supply of podded propulsion equipment and stabilising fins for the French Navy’s third Mistral class amphibious assault ship (LHD).

France orders more VBCI armoured vehicles
France’s Délégation Générale pour l’Armement (DGA) has awarded Nexter Systems (stand 1840) a contract for a further batch of 332 Véhicule Blindé de Combat d’Infanterie (VBCI) (8x8) infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) for the French Army.

GKN Aerospace (Stand 791) has been awarded a US Department of Defense contract to develop instantly dimmable bullet-resistant windows for a range of VIP protection applications. Worth USD425,000, the contract has been let by the DoD’s Combating Terrorism Technical Support Office (CTTSO).

Creation UK Ltd (Stand 757) has developed, using company funding, the Zephyr Special Requirements Vehicle (SRV) and is now building a pre-production batch of four or five vehicles, with one of these being shown at DSEi.
