Safe water from anywhere
Thursday, 10 September, 2009
Lifesaver Systems has supplied its award-winning bottle for current trials with the British Army in Afghanistan, but has launched its new jerrycan at the show. Exhibited on Stand 2209 in the North Hall, the new jerrycan incorporates Lifesaver’s ultra-filtration technology, to remove bacteria, viruses, cysts, parasites, fungi and all other microbiological waterborne pathogens from local water without using chemicals, which are apt to impart an unpleasant taste.
Available in two sizes, capable of processing either 10,000 or 20,000 litres of water, the jerrycans provide safe, sterile drinking water quickly and easily in large quantities. Indeed, the company claims the larger of the two jerrycans will filter enough water to provide 10 people with 10 litres of water a day for a six-month tour, at a fraction of the cost of bottled water. It incorporates the Lifesaver fail-safe technology, which shuts off the system upon expiry, thus preventing contaminated water from being drunk by the user.
It is said that almost 50 per cent of military traffic in Afghanistan is transporting water, but Lifesaver’s jerrycan could dramatically reduce this figure, and in doing so, reduce the risk to soldiers.
Also on show is the company’s Hydrocarry UF, claimed to be the world’s first hydration pack incorporating advanced ultra-filtration technology for the dismounted soldier.
