Mine detection and removal – fast

Tuesday, 15 June, 2010

To combat the heavy toll in life resulting from the use of improvised explosive devices (IE Ds), Fassi Gru (Stand OUT G20) has developed a mine detection and removal system that can be quickly deployed in the field and brought into operation.

An importent component of the system is the M10 Interrogation Arm, a mine detection and removal device that can be installed with basic hand tools on any vehicle in less than one working day.

Using a Fassi crane arm with a boom, an R-Vision daytime camera and a digging implement for unearthing and investigating suspect devices, the M10 provides a standoff interrogation of such threats. This promises to provide a significant improvement in vehicle and personnel survivability from a possible IED detonation.

The interrogation arm has a camera-equipped crane extension to enable users to seek out and identify mines, IEDs and other explosive antipersonnel devices safely, even in locations not viewable to the naked eye. A proprietary rake attachment enables the M10 to safely dig up and remove suspect items, while the easy-to-deploy interface system gives almost any vehicle the capability to find and remove explosive devices.
