Dynamic Aviation adds Dash 8 to its fleet
Wednesday, 21 July, 2010
Dynamic Aviation, one of a number of private companies filling a US military requirement for niche tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities, came to Farnborough having recently added a Bombardier Dash 8 twin turboprop to its special mission fleet.
Company president and chief executive officer Michael Stoltzfus told Jane's: "The Dash 8 was purchased for a specific requirement, though our belief is that Dynamic Aviation needs to have a mid-sized aircraft. [It] was bought in the belief that it will generate increased interest in that size aircraft."
He confirmed that, although the Dash 8 has only been on the company website for three weeks, it has been operating for a number of months with various undisclosed sensors on board. Unable to be specific regarding the aircraft's mission, Stoltzfuz did confirm that the company's main military customer is US Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Based at a privately owned airport in Bridgewater, Virginia, Dynamic Aviation uses a mixture of ex-military and civilian pilots to operate a fleet of about 150 aircraft. Of these about 120 are twin-turboprop Beechcraft King Air 90s and about 20 are C-12s (King Air 200s), with the rest being a mix that includes larger DC-9s and MD-80s for more general transport duties. According to Stoltzfus, the King Air - particularly the C-12 class - is the ideal tactical ISR platform due to its combination of speed, footprint and reliability.
