Welcome to the Jane's SOFEX 2010 show site.
The 8th edition of the ever-growing SOFEX series will be held at the King Abdullah I Airbase in Amman in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This niche event is held biennially under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Chairmanship of HRH Prince Feisal Bin Al Hussein and with the full support of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF).
SOFEX 2010 is a four-day event that kicks off with a prominent one day conference that includes a series of comprehensive and topical seminars delivered by top military officials from around the world, tackling a wide range of issues pertinent to current counter terrorism and homeland security issues. Jordan signs for new Little Bird
Witnessed by His Royal Highness Prince Feisal Bin Al Hussein, Major General Malek Habashneh, the Royal Jordanian Air Force commander, signed a letter of intent yesterday for Jordan to acquire the Boeing AH-6i light attack/reconnaissance helicopter. Signing on behalf of Boeing was Al Winn, VP Apache programs vice-president.12 May, 2010
Hellfire ‘Romeo’: one warhead fits all
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control has qualified its latest AGM-114R ‘Romeo’ version of the Hellfire II guided missile, and is now awaiting a production contract, expected later this year. The ‘Romeo’ greatly simplifies the Hellfire II family, with a single multi-purpose warhead replacing the four current options.12 May, 2010

In the three days leading up to SOFEX, the King Abdullah Special Operations Training Center hosted the second annual Warrior competition, which tests the skills of special forces teams from several nations.

KADDB signs contracts
Yesterday, the Jordanian Armed Forces signed a deal with the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) for military equipment worth US$102 million. The range of equipment comprises command and control vehicles, mobile hospitals, armoured command posts, 60mm mortars, automated 120mm mortars, militarised Land Cruisers, gunner shields on Humvees, J8 armoured vehicles, Stallion vehicles, Scimitars with machine guns, heavy infantry fighting vehicles, the 70mm MLRS, Viper multi-calibre pistols, bulletproof vests and ready-to-eat meals.

Silent spy in the sky
If a demonstration of a very small unmanned aerial system (UAS) has not been a showstopper at SOFEX, it could be because the remarkable four-rotor craft is silent, yet remarkably agile.
