Jordan signs for new Little BirdWitnessed by His Royal Highness Prince Feisal Bin Al Hussein, Major General Malek Habashneh, the Royal Jordanian Air Force commander, signed a letter of intent yesterday for Jordan to acquire the Boeing AH-6i light attack/reconnaissance helicopter. Signing on behalf of Boeing was Al Winn, VP Apache programs vice-president.

Hellfire ‘Romeo’: one warhead fits allLockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control has qualified its latest AGM-114R ‘Romeo’ version of the Hellfire II guided missile, and is now awaiting a production contract, expected later this year. The ‘Romeo’ greatly simplifies the Hellfire II family, with a single multi-purpose warhead replacing the four current options.

KADDB signs contracts
Yesterday, the Jordanian Armed Forces signed a deal with the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) for military equipment worth US$102 million. The range of equipment comprises command and control vehicles, mobile hospitals, armoured command posts, 60mm mortars, automated 120mm mortars, militarised Land Cruisers, gunner shields on Humvees, J8 armoured vehicles, Stallion vehicles, Scimitars with machine guns, heavy infantry fighting vehicles, the 70mm MLRS, Viper multi-calibre pistols, bulletproof vests and ready-to-eat meals.

Silent spy in the sky
Silent spy in the skyIf a demonstration of a very small unmanned aerial system (UAS) has not been a showstopper at SOFEX, it could be because the remarkable four-rotor craft is silent, yet remarkably agile. Nevertheless, many visitors have stopped by Tactical Electronics’ Stand C119 in Hall 1 to learn more of its capabilities.

New products simplify surveillance
Broadcast Microwave Services (BMS) is showing new developments on Stand D121 in Hall 1. Of particular interest to crews of surveillance and law enforcement aircraft, the DLC50 downlink control panel has been designed to give an operator 100 per cent control of any BMS digital microwave system.

KADDB signs JV with Aselsan
KADDB has penned an agreement with Turkey’s Aselsan to establish the Jordan Electro-Optics Company joint venture, which will provide a platform for technology transfer concerning night vision and thermal imaging systems.

Thales consolidates presence
Exhibiting in Hall 6 on Stand A622, Thales has recently consolidated its presence in the Middle East by opening new offices in Jordan. As well as providing systems and equipment to the region, Thales is keen to develop a progressive and close co-operation in technology, industry and training.

Falco due for trials
Selex Galileo is promoting a range of products and capabilities here, including the Falco UAV, which is scheduled to undergo testing in Jordan shortly. Selex Galileo already works closely with local companies to develop advanced technology for the Jordanian Armed Forces, including an agreement with KADDB concerning unmanned air systems and electro-optic devices.

Advanced reality simulation
Meggitt Training Systems, manufacturer of the FATS line of military training simulators, has introduced a new standard in training technology with the launch of high-fidelity, advanced reality simulation. SOFEX visitors can preview this at regular intervals throughout the show on Stand B174 in Hall 1.
